"Surfers" (J. Seward Johnson)

Surfer Statue at Latham Plaza

We stop in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where we spy a realistic statue of a surfer couple. The surfers were created by J. Seward Johnson, and donated to the city in 2009.

Our next stop was Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Heading toward the beach, we stopped at “Surfers” by J. Seward Johnson. A surfer statue depicting two realistic surfers, the statue was donated to the city in 2009. As the surfers gaze towards the nearby beach (and the Atlantic Ocean beyond), it’s like they are caught ready to hit the waves.

As the woman holds her longboard, the man gazes up at her, the excitement of their next adventure in the surf evident all over their faces. While they are very realistic, they are actually made of hand-painted bronze.

A fun photo opportunity, this surfer statue was just the first of the interesting sights we managed to see in Jacksonville Beach. What the surfers were gazing at caught us by surprise. Stay tuned to see what that surprise was.

In the meantime, check out the close-ups of the surfers below.
